David Clowney: The Jets Are Ready

No team in the NFL made more moves this off-season than Rex Ryan’s New York Jets. They brought in future hall of famers (LaDainian Tomlinson and Jason Taylor), a former All-Pro cornerback (Antonio Cromartie), and Super Bowl MVP (Santonio Holmes). With all the additions and their training camp being filmed for the NFL series “Hard Knocks”, the expectations for the Jets are extremely high. However, those expectations do not appear to be bothering Virginia Tech alum and fourth year wide receiver David Clowney who talked with QtheQuestion.com about the upcoming season.

QtheQuestion.com: How do you feel about all the moves your team has made this offseason?

DC: I’m excited about them. We have a lot of veteran guys on the team. I think that it is big not only for the team but for the city as well. You know that’s all we’ve been thinking about, that’s all we’ve talking about you know going to the Super Bowl. That’s our mission, that’s our goal and making these moves is going to make it that much easier.

QtheQuestion.com: There are some people who are saying that you all are only building for this season, which you’re only going to make a one year run at the Super Bowl. Do you think that’s correct or do you think you have a good 4 or 5 year window to reach the Super Bowl?

DC: I mean I don’t care if its one year, five years, ten years, I just want to win the Super Bowl. Regardless if it’s this year, next year, I’m do everything I can do to win the Super Bowl every year. I can’t predict what the team is going to do as far as one year deals, two year deals as far as players. Our job is to make sure we go out and win the Super Bowl.

QtheQuestion.com: How will you fulfill your role with the team this with all the moves that have been made?

DC: Just going out there and playing my role, which ever way possible. I’m going to out there, I’m going to perform regardless if its at receiver, kickoff coverage, special teams no matter what it is I’m going to be there for my team no matter what they need me for.

QtheQuestion.com: So what is your coach Rex Ryan like? What is it like playing for a guy that is so bold with the media and what he says?

DC: Man, I love playing for Rex Ryan without a doubt, I mean everybody does. Just like you said he’s a bold guy, he gives it to you straight up, uncut. You know he has no reason to hide anything that he says, because regardless of what he says were going to back him up.

QtheQuestion.com: What are your thoughts on quarterback Mark Sanchez, I know that he is coming off surgery, how has looked so far through the minicamps?

DC: He’s looked good, he’s looked real good. He’s out there performing, throwing the rock very well. He still has a long way to go before training camp, he has a good month before training camp starts and he has a long time before the season starts. So he has a lot of time to get his knee back into shape. He’s been out there performing and throwing the ball with us and he looks good, he looks like Mark Sanchez suppose to be.

QtheQuestion.com: I know that the Jets are going to be on “Hard Knocks” and what are you feelings about that?

DC: I really don’t care about the whole “Hard Knocks” thing. I’m not really tripping about it. I’m not paying too much attention to it, its just cameras out there. All these guys in the NFL and who have played college football they’ve been on TV before, they’ve been in front of a camera. So if there’s a camera out there watching us practice it doesn’t make a difference we still got to go out there and get done what we got to get done.

QtheQuestion.com: Will there be any matchups this season that you are looking forward to?

DC: Of course, it’s always good to come back home and play against your hometown the Dolphins with me being from South Florida but other that I’m looking forward to each and every game. I’m going to prepare for every game week by week and prepare myself to the best of my abilities and make sure that I perform as well as I can.

QtheQuestion.com: There have also been some moves made in your division by the Dolphins, where you think you all fit in the AFC East?

DC: I’m not worried about the AFC East, I’m just worried about the Super Bowl.

QtheQuestion.com: So the Super Bowl is your only main concern?

DC: Yeah, my main concern, why worry about the AFC East, when your goal is the Super Bowl? If you sit there and worry about the AFC East that’s all you’re going to get done. If you worry about the Super Bowl, the AFC East is going to be a breeze and you know your mission and know what you you’re trying to get done.
