Industry Advice Wednesday: Learn To be Patient

We all want to achieve certain levels of success in our respected professions. Of course with that being said we all should understand that it does not come overnight. If you look at the top notch people that have similar professions and who are the best at what they do, they’ll tell you themselves it was not overnight.

A lot of times especially being in this industry for some time now, I realize that a lot of people are impatient. There are times when a lot of people (mostly younger) where they start to have some minor success and all of a sudden get super impatient.  Of course it’s only right to be proud of your success when you finally start to make progress. At the same time don’t let it get to your head and feel you’re on top of the world where everything should go your way. You have to still come to reality and think “I’m still on the come up and not everybody knows me, so I’ll keep grinding.”

The whole thing is putting in work and some people just don’t have the idea of what that actually means.  Each year in your life especially when you have a certain goal in any career the key is moving up. When you work in a certain profession and have a dream, each year you are supposed to be past the previous level the year before. You don’t want to be in the same position each year and if you aren’t then you’re not making progress. For example if you are a salesman at a Fortune 500 company and at level 1 your first year there, next year you should be above that at level 2. Yes that will come with time and hard work but that’s where patience will come in.  It’s a reason why they say patience is a virtue and if you live by that in any dream, goal, whatever you call it, you’ll be just fine. I will say as well though, once reaching that next level it's like starting all over again and your patience will be tested again.

I must agree with you there!!! It's really easy to get frustrated when things don't come, but it's something that comes with times.

The main thing is, you have to realize who you're comparing yourself to because everyone is on a different level of success and has put in a different amount of work.
