Chicago native recording artist 5ive Star is doing a great job of living up to his name. His newest single “Club to the Bedroom” is quickly spreading through the airwaves in the Midwest and has been place on over 100 mixtapes to date.

With his new album Popology slated to drop this winter, 5ive Star is poised for an enormous crossover success, which he hopes brings him into the mainstream. Combining rap with R&B and pop, the Chi-Town native definitely has a sound like no other.

In fact, 5ive says he is what Robin Thicke would be if he was a rapper – now that’s unique. Q the Question interviewed the up-and-coming artist recently about his fusion album, Popology, his single and his ambitions.

Q: Thanks for getting with me and doing this interview 5ive. Tell us about Popology. What can we expect to hear?

5ive: Thank you very much for having me. Well the album is 14 tracks, all original singles. We were very motivated to create an album that you could listen to from front to back, like the good old days. [Laughs] Its main underlying sound is pop in it’s production but as a lyricist it is definitely an album that has a fusion of musical genres. I’m excited for the reaction.

Q: So far what’s your favorite track on the album?

5ive: My favorite track has always been a song called 3 Doors Down. It’s just such a complete song with a lot of meaning, great production, and a huge crossover song.  Every song is special but that one always sticks out to me. If Robin Thicke was an emcee he’d sound like this [laughs].

Q: Let’s talk about the link between you and Naki the Beatman. “Club To The Bedroom” production is dope, how did you two meet?

5ive: Really it was by chance, though a mutual friend. “Club to the Bedroom” was such a no-brainer. You know, you hear artist say they made a hit in 15 minutes…well I did it in 14 [laughs]. No, but when I heard the beat, it was such a no brainer. The production is amazing, the engineering was perfect and it just all came together.

Q: What’s the next single to drop?

5ive: Well, we’ve been getting reaction from a lot of different records which is never a bad thing. The song, “Let’s Play House,” is available on iTunes and is another great radio record that is being played on B96.3 here in Chicago. We have a lot to chose from, but right now we are just so focused on the first single, that decision has yet to be formally made.

Q: How did you pick and choose the beats for this project?

5ive: Well, Naki played a big part in producing beats that he thought would work for the album. There are about 7 producers on the album though. The other tracks just came about from hearing them. As an artist, some beats just connect with you, and you run with it. We definitely tried to stay true in bringing together Pop and Hip-Hop elements to make a uniform sound.

Q: You’ve got the internet buzzing right now, were you expecting such a great response from your fans?

5ive: I just love making music that the fans can truly enjoy. Connecting with the fans is really what it’s all about. I knew the music would speak for itself, so it’s just a great feeling to gain the exposure in order for fans of music to get the opportunity to hear what I have to offer as an artist. A great response never gets old though, so I definitely appreciative of the fans support.

Q: How do you plan on leaving your mark in the Hip-Hop history books?

5ive: I study, constantly write and perform to try to perfect my craft. I relish the position I am in to make music and to be a part of this industry. Ultimately, I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to go down as one of the best, but I’m just focused on enjoying every step of the way right now. I’ve always lived by the motto that you can only control what you do, the rest is for others to decide. But, I think there is a page in that book for me [laughs].

Q: What’s next 5ive Star?

5ive: We are in the middle of a radio campaign for the single, “Club to the Bedroom” which is currently being played around the country. We are always on the promotion grind.  We are also focused on performing and being out there on stage where I can reach the fans directly. I’ll be going to LA in August to do some promotion and shows as well.

Q: Where can we find you online?

5ive: Everywhere [laughs]. You can always Google 5ive Star “Club to the Bedroom” to find the latest on the single. You can also find the single on iTunes. You can also find me at www.myspace.com/5star1, www.youtube.com/5starhiphop, www.twitter.com/5ivestar1, www.sonicbids.com/5ivestar

Q: Any final words shout outs and props?

5ive: Got to shout out my family at Life Music Group. Also, I got to give it up to my manager Shondel. I want to shout out i-Standard for always showing me support.  I would also like to thank all the fans and supporters out there of 5ive Star - much love.
