The Arizona Cardinals made it to the Superbowl for the first team ever in team history this past season. Lead by the motivating head coach Ken Whisenhunt and veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, the Cardinals surprised many people around the NFL last season, which proves even more you never know what to expect on any given Sunday. We all know of the Cardinals dynamic offense as well with the triple X-factor wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston who all happen to gain over 1,000 yards each that season which lead the Cardinals to the big dance. This 2009 season the Cardinals had a rough start at 1-2, but since then they’ve been on the roll especially after a big week 7 win against the New York Giants winning 24-17. Now that the Cardinals seem to get back in their rhythm, I had to ask Steve was the rough start due to playing under pressure to repeat what happen last year? “We had realized we was making mistakes and had some inconsistency, we knew as a offense that when you limit your mistakes, and be more consistent that we were a very dangerous offense.” As a football team we just knew that we really just needed to bring it together, its a different team than last year, we got new personnel, so it was some mild changes, we know as a team what it took last year, been through the ups and downs in the season. We been here before, where last year people didn’t believe in us and we made it all the way to the Superbowl.” You can’t really listen to the naysayers out there, you have to listen to your teammates.” When you look at the NFC West division, at first instinct once you view the records of the teams you could see a lot of struggle has been occurring. With the exception of the Arizona Cardinals, the NFC West which includes the St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers are in the current “rebuilding stages” of their respected organizations. St. Louis had some tough losing seasons past couple of years, Seattle have ups and downs, while San Francisco has the potential to be Arizona’s biggest threat. Breaston gives the team much credit and know what their capable of. “They have a lot of mental toughness and their a very physical team. They’ve have players that been to the Superbowl and who played on some very competitive teams who won big games, so we know when we play them it’s competitive. Ever since I came to the league, every game with the 49ers has been close.” Of course the Cardinals offense was the talk around the NFL, with quarterback Kurt Warner performing at such a high level providing veteran leadership. The explosive passing game with stud wideouts Steve Breaston, Anquan Boldin, and Larry Fitzgerald, was superb. Many questioned though, how would the Cardinals offense fair this season after losing veteran running back Edgerrin James to free agency. So what was the plan to make the running game solid and for the Cardinals to not be a one dimensional pass heavy offense? “We drafted a running back this year with Beanie Wells who is doing a great job for us this year.” Tim Hightower did a good job as a rookie last year. We lost Edgerrin James due to free agency. As the season goes on its very important that we have a balanced attack. Their very good runners and the more experience that comes along they’ll only get more explosive.” Many would wonder why the chemistry is so good with Kurt Warner and the talented receiving corps that he has. The wide receiver perception around the league is the typical flamboyant diva who only cares about himself and mindset is stuck on “Get Me The Ball”. When it comes to the Arizona Cardinals this is not the issue as Warner dishes the ball off equally and let’s it be known “There Is No I in Team”. Steve cosigns with this as well and shares how that works “Kurt is going to find the open guy and we know we are all talented players on the field. Some plays you might get a couple balls and some games you can get get 7, 8. You have to be prepared to be ready because any given play Kurt will come to you. When me, Larry, Anquan, have our A-game it tough for defenses to match up with us. We all play for each other. Talking to Steve Breaston you come to find out that he has a relaxed and calm personality. Very well spoken, you get the perception that Steve indeed has some talent outside of football. Finding out he was a big fan of poetry wasn’t surprising as he gave me a story how how the interest came. “I started to get into poetry around the 7th grade. I enjoy writing and it was just a passion I loved doing. Writing helps release a lot of emotion and I was very quiet growing up. Writing is a great form of expression, especially poetry. I just like how you can use only a few words to express so much.” On the side now Breaston even admitted he was a big fan of comic books as well with Spiderman being his favorite player. Aside from poetry you can only assume that Steve Breaston is a music lover as well, it only makes sense right? Being a avid hip-hop fan Breaston was excited to give some insight of who are his favorite artists right now. “I really love The Clipse, they’ve always been a favorite group of mine. Jay-Z is another favorite as well. I also like Young Chris, Beanie Sigel, the whole State Property I enjoy listening to them. I love the L.O.X. too, Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch. While hailing from the state of Pennsylvania, then ending up on the harbors of Michigan becoming a Michigan Wolverine, and now the flaming temperatures in Arizona is not a problem at all. Enjoying life to the fullest is great and Steve Breaston is cherishing each bit of it. The story for the Arizona Cardinals this season is one to await and Steve Breaston is glad to be a positive piece of the organization’s new movement “I love Arizona, the weather is beautiful, and it is always nice. I love the organization and was glad to be a part of the teams first trip to the Superbowl. I love the organization, the players, the staff, and it’s really great to be a part of it.” |
