The Indianapolis Colts so far this NFL season has been doing some damage. Lead by a Superbowl Champion and future hall-of-famer with quarterback Peyton Manning the Colts are on a stampede and from the way it looks, any team that gets in their way will surely be run over. We all know of Peyton Manning’s genius ability to read a defense only to destroy with a spectacular play seconds later. At the same time the offensive line has to block, running backs have to burst through d-lineman like lighting, and those wide receivers still have to catch the ball. Pierre Garcon is one of the soldier’s under the dynamic offense lead by general Peyton Manning. Now in his second year in the NFL Pierre is developing his game each week, into one of Peyton’s go to targets at wide receiver. The Colts no longer have Marvin Harrison and yes Reggie Wayne is still an X-Factor, but with the loss of speedster Anthony Gonzalez the team had to unite and still continue to dominate offensively. For that ability to step up and continue to play great football the Indianapolis Colts are making noise and a team that the National Football should watch out for. Pierre Garcon stops in to chat with your favorite journalist Q The Question on the Colts impeccable start and why there is only one Peyton Manning.
The Colts are on fire right now and undefeated right now. It was a lot of talk about the Titans being the team to watch coming out the AFC, but now the Colts can’t seemed to be stopped, what’s going on? PG: It’s been a lot of preparation all year. We were ready and now we are doing good. It took a lot of hard work and preparation and now the work we’ve done is what’s helping us become successful.
PG: It was a lot to had to be done, especially with getting the timing down. We’ve stayed working out and we had to all get familiar with each other. All of that took part in the offseason as you always have to be prepared for what comes unexpectedly during the season. Once Anthony Gonzalez went down with a knee injury, what as the initial reaction amongst the team? PG: That was basically the “Let’s man up”, because you know that’s what were in the league for. You never know when your opportunity is going to change or come. You should always be prepared to step up, because you never know when the team is going to need you. Being there for each other is what a team is about. That’s why you are in the league and that’s what they have you on the team for. As a player for this team, can you honestly tell me you seen the Colts being undefeated the first few games of the season? PG: Well we knew we wanted to get off to a good start for the year. Of course, you like the go undefeated the whole year, but you know on any given Sunday you can beat by any team. I’m used to winning (Laughs), so I saw us going undefeated the whole time. Hopefully we can continue to be undefeated, but you know this is the NFL and not too many teams won all 16 games (Laughs).
PG: It took a lot of preparation, because we knew what they (Cardinals) were capable of. You know they got Larry Fitzgerald and he is a game breaker. They got got guys that can change the game at anytime. We knew it was going to be on national TV so we were ready for it. Coach Dungy retired and many wondered how things would go with Coach Caldwell. How was that whole transition playing from Dungy to Jim Caldwell? PG: It wasn’t much of a transition, because the coach we have now has been there for a while. He’s not going to come up and change a lot of stuff. He’s been under Coach Dungy for a while, him and Coach Dungy coach alike. It wasn’t much of a change, Coach Caldwell is a great coach. He does some things his on way, but as long as we keep winning and doing things right, we don’t have nothing to worry about at all. Are there any slight changes that the team misses about Coach Dungy, that Caldwell doesn’t bring? PG: I really can’t tell you nothing exactly, I’ve only been in the league for two years. I’ve had Coach Dungy for one year and Coach Caldwell for one year. I do miss being under hall of fame coach and his motivation for the short time I was under him. Other than that I really can’t say much compared to what the other guys on the team would know.
(Laughs), You know, it’s them trying to get an edge on us. Everybody knows the history of Peyton and his ability to change calls once he steps to the line. He’s a great football player and they were just trying to find a way to beat us. Teams will try to do things to stop us. [Laughs], So let me ask you. Throughout your entire football career have you ever played with a quarterback like Peyton Manning who is OVER-INTELLIGENT when it comes to reading a defense? PG: Nah man, not even close (Laughs)! Why you think Peyton is so good at what he does? PG: Man I don’t know, if anybody knew they would probably be as good as him [Laughs]. He’s a student of the game and he was born into it. His dad was a quarterback, his little brother’s a quarterback, I guess its something he’s born with. Let me give you a game scenario. Its 3rd and 15, the Colts are lining up to pass the ball. Peyton see’s the safeties blitzing and wants to change the play. Does that sometimes confuses the receivers like “C’mon Peyton your changing it now, I thought we were doing this?” PG: Nah we always practice for things like that which is part of the preparation. You have to be prepared for anything Peyton does, because he might see something at the last second and you have to be ready. You can’t be like “Aw man my bad, I missed it”, because that will let your team down. The thing with him is that Peyton will call anything at anytime so that’s why you got to be ready [Laughs]. Was there times when you screwed up and Peyton got mad at you? PG: Aw man ever since my rookie year [laughs]. I messed up a lot, but you can’t let it happen too much. A lot of guys crew up, but its part of the game when you have a complicated offense like that [laughs]. You can’t mess up at crucial times as that’s when the games are on the line and you have to be counted on. So as a receiver in the National Football League what is the one mistake that a receiver can make that will drive his quarterback crazy? PG: Drop the ball (Laughs). You can run the wrong route and all that, but when you drop the ball that’s when you know you’ve done something wrong (Laughs). (Laughs), But he can’t get mad at you when one of those safeties or corners hit you hard enough. PG: Well that’s different, but if you just drop the ball just to drop it then he be mad at you. If it’s a tough play where one of the DB’s knock it out that’s different, aside from wide open and dropping it (Laughs). It’s very rare, especially in the NFL that a player stays with one team for his entire career. Sometimes I be like man “Brett Favre is wearing a Vikings jersey.” Speaking on your behalf can you see yourself as a Indy Colt your entire career? PG: Oh yeah without a doubt. I never imagined Brett Favre in a purple Vikings jersey either, but you know it works for him and he’s winning. If you could name some things you like to improve your game in, what would it be? PG: Making big plays, to always catching the ball, tough catches, everything man. I want to be the best receiver I can be. Pierre Garcon is represented by the Genesis Media Group www.genesismp.com |
