QtheQuestion.com's Kapri "Ms. Wall Street" Jackson gets with New England Patriots safety Bret Lockett. The young safety safety speaks on his NFL experience so far and why it's great to play for Coach Bill Belichick. In this two piece feature Bret Lockett speaks on getting cut my Cleveland but still having confidence to make an NFL roster.

Brett Lockett ON The Field.wav (Audio)

MWS: Doing my research I see that you were cut by the Browns when you first came into the league and later picked up by the Patriots. Even though the Pats gave you a chance, how did it feel when the Browns let you go?

BL: I felt cheated, I felt that I played and tried harder than anybody there in my eyes. I felt somewhat disrespected because of my efforts but I allowed it to motivate me and pushed me to show everyone that they were wrong.

MWS: I like that you were able to turn that into motivation. Most people do not have that ability. When you were cut did you think your career was over or limited?

BL: No, when I was cut they told me that I would be place on the practice squad; I knew I would still be playing football but I was a little bummed because I thought I played a little better than some of the other players in my eyes.

AFC looks tough this year. The Jets made some key moves, the Dolphins look to improve. What's your take on the division as of right now?

BL: Every year each team is looking to get better, no one is going to stay the same. Some teams make moves for the better some teams make moves for the worst.  Things look nice on paper but you still have to play the game. It can be compared to the whole LeBron scenario, it all looks good on paper but it still remains to be seen.

MWS: What's it like playing under Coach Belichick, what would you say is his strong attribute?

BL: I love playing under Coach Belichick. There is no BS around there. You know what you’re going to get, you know what he wants you to do. You know your job , it’s very cut and dry. You come to work, you come to do your job and you keep it moving.

MWS: How do you like playing in Foxborough?

BL: I love it, it’s quite, it’s in the suburbs about 30 mins outside of Boston and it helps keeps me focused.  I love it it’s quite which helps me to stay focus. Unlike other cities like LA or Miami where you can easily get lost in the nightlife and all things going on around football it reminds me of what I am here to do.

MWS: I like that you’re not easily distracted. Can you tell us a little about the locker-room chemistry; Brady, Moss, and Welker?

BL: The locker-room is almost like our playground. The field and meeting rooms are where we work. There locker-room is where we can kick back, relax, be ourselves and have fun. There is not bad blood in the locker-room. Randy is a character as always, West is the funny guy, Brady is the serious guy that  has a funny side that most don’t get to see. Overall the chemistry is very good.

MWS: There are talks of a probable lockout can you tell us what you know about that?

BL: It’s a money thing. At the end of the day it’s about business, and you want your business to prosper. You have teams like The RedSkins and The Cowboys that make the most money in the NFL that are overshadowing the other teams that are not as big salary wise. There is a pretty high chance of a lockout and when have numerous meetings about it so there is a probably so I am just preparing for the worst.

MWS: How do you think it would affect you if this lockout goes into play?

BL: It hits you financially, because you are out of a job for a certain amount of time. Especially younger guys in the league who don’t have the cushion that and older player may have because we are still establishing ourselves to make a name and get paid.

MWS: What do you think your end of the season stats will be?

BL: I am not psychic; I don’t look into the future so I can’t make a prediction.

MWS: What goals have you set for yourself?

BL: Anytime I go on the field I’m not playing to loose. I don’t know anyone who is playing a professional sport that plays to loose, especially at this level. Anytime I go on the field I don’t plan on loosing anything. We have a tuff schedule this year we have to stay healthy and bring it every week.

MWS: What do you think about the talks about NE and T.O?(Interview was done before T.O. signed with Bengals).

BL: I heard about that actually. Personally I just play football, I don’t scout players. T.O is a good player and I think would be a good asset to our team, to bring some leadership, he’s been in the league for a min so he knows what he is doing.

MWS: Do you think he would mesh well?

BL: I think so, We have Belichick and he’s no nonsense and we are known for being to the point and holding an image and we would keep up our perception.

MWS: Questions from Facebook from NFL fans: Stacking up to some of the great DB of all time who’s style do you say you most likely resemble: Darrell Green, Champ Bailey, Ty Law, Deion Sanders, and Charles Woodson?

BL: These are all cornerbacks and I do play safety. If I had to choose one of those I would choose Deion Sanders because of his flashiness and I like how he was able to dominate on the field. I am not as much of a talker as Deion but I do like his style. Since I do play safety I would try to model my play after Brian Dawkins.

MSW: In reviewing last season, what are two things that went wrong and what do think could have been done better in the playoffs?

BL: We all have to be able to finish. I know we have started a lot of games where we are up a lot of points and then end up shooting ourselves in the foot and losing a lot of games we should have won. At the end of the day it comes down to what we do as a team and our execution on the field.

MWS: What are you doing to ensure/increase the fact that you are a three down player or to increase your game time?

BL: I am always in the film room trying to watch film whenever I can. I am always studying my plays even after OTA’s I took my book home. I try to stay in shape, I try to eat right every little detail counts if you want to be great and that is what I do.

MWS: What are the Patriots chances at the SuperBowl?

BL: I think we have very good chances that depend on execution. Like you just mentioned chances and we have to take advantage of our chances and take our opportunities and evolve them into wins.

MWS: Who do you hang out with on the team?

BL: Patrick Shawn University of Oregon and James Sanders.

MWS: Did you know that you were going to make it into the NFL?

BL: When you’re young you always watch and wonder but you don’t really know the steps that it takes to get there. I didn’t know the steps until the end of my junior year going into my senior year. It hit me my senior year and I was like let’s go.

MWS: How has entry into the NFL changed your life?

I have more leeway to do the stuff that I didn’t get to do because I was in college. Like traveling and going out of the country to vacation and party.  I am the same person that I was before I entered the NFL the range of the things the NFL has done was open the door for new experiences.
