Drake-Thank Me Later

The Canadian-born rapper Drake has been heard all over on mixtapes and on tracks with many prominent artists. With being such a talented artist and having so strong of a buzz, many of Drakes fans were anxious for an actual album from him to be released. After a very long wait, "Thank Me Later," is finally in stores and the fans can't wait to see what Drake has in store.

This album will please fans because Drake stays true to himself and maintains his original style throughout the album. Karaoke is a personal favorite, this track is the perfect example of what a typical Drake song sounds like. This song has great content, great lyrics, a great chorus, great vocals & a mellow beat. Although the beat on this song is very laid-back, it is a hot beat. Show Me A Good Time was one of the better songs on the album as well. This track is one of the up-tempo songs on the album and it sounds like it could be a perfect radio hit single. Drake is talented at making up-tempo tracks just as he is on tracks with a slower tempo. Fancy and Over were up-beat tracks and these two songs were also hits. Fancy is a nice anthem for ladies who are beautiful, classy, independent and smart. Listeners can appreciate this song because it glorifies women who are successful or are trying to become successful. There is a need for songs like this, that speak positive about women and encourage women to be independent.  Over is a big hit on the radio and for good reason. The hook on this song is so hot, that Drake could have played around for the rest of the track if he wanted to. It was one of the best choices for a single on the album so, it's a really strong record capable of capturing a wide range of audiences. The song on the album featuring Lil' Wayne Miss Me is an album favorite. Both Lil' Wayne and Drake did their thing on this track especially lyrically. Thank Me Now is the last song on the album but it can't be overlooked because this is a hot track. The lyrics on this song are enjoyable and even though Drake acts a little out of character on this track, the cockiness worked out well for him on this one.

There are a few collaboration tracks on this album. Up All Night featuring Nicki MInaj is a decent collaboration. On this track Nicki Minaj really stood out and after you hear the song once, you will replay it again and look forward to hearing her verse. Unforgettable featured Jeezy and like Nicki Minaj he stood out on the track. Drake and Jeezy's verses were on point but I didn't think the sample from the late, Aaliyah, was necessary on the song. The sample was a bit too much. The collaboration with Jay Z is an okay track, Jay Z basically did his usual bragging but he did his thing on the track. One thing that I didn't like about the collaborations on this album is that Drake didn't stand out as much as the guest artists on many of the songs. This is partially because at times Drake can get boring. In some of his songs his vocals are monotone and it's difficult to capture an audience with that particular style of rapping or singing. That was almost a problem in the song Fireworks. At first listen, this song is not impressive but when you listen to it a few times it grows on you. It comes off as a boring track but Drakes lyrics capture you after you grasp the meaning of the song. Drake and The Dream did a song called Shut It Down and again this song is a nice song but the track picks up after The Dream does his verse. The Dream did his thing on that particular song and the two had great chemistry on this song. Find Your Love is on the boring side but I can see a female audience being impressed by the verses on the song. However, even for some females the song may have been a little too far on the soft side.

Overall, "Thank Me Later," is a solid album. As always, Drake did his thing lyrically and he has a very creative style that draws his fans in. It's a plus that Drake does a combination of singing and rapping. It would be a huge advantage if he would step outside the box a little more with his vocals but they were still impressive. This album is a masterpiece and will be a classic so fans along with people who have a true love for music should go ahead and thank Drake now for another classic in hip-hop.
