Eminem-Recovery

Eminem is on the road to sobriety with his new album, “Recovery”. Just when you thought he had reached his peak with his previous album, with “Relapse” Eminem comes out swinging so fast it’ll make your eyes spin. With some fans disappointed in the last album "Relapse" and Eminem himself admitting he wasn’t happy with the last album the guest appearances on "Recovery" are limited. The album has some known singers like Pink and Rihanna, then an unknown singer named Kobe. The only rapping feature is Lil Wayne on a record called "No Love" which is the duo’s second collaboration. The album’s production is crazy and Eminem takes a break from the beats on this album. Some of the producers include Just Blaze, Dj Khalil, Mr. Porter, Boi 1da, Havoc and more. Dr. Dre did one track on the album and he also executive produced it.

The general consensus on the "Relapse" album was that it was ok but Eminem could've done better. Well, that is the fire that fueled Eminem because "Recovery" is by far his best album. Each song is different while they all seem to fall into one theme: Eminem’s pain and hunger. He has songs about dealing with addictions, demons and moving on from them like “Not Afraid”. Then he has songs that reflect the old crazy drugged out Slim Shady on, “W.T.P” (White Trash Party). While Eminem’s beats are hit or miss the production on this album brings out the best in Eminem. This album brings Eminem back to his old self, when he didn’t use an accent and he had harder punch lines and metaphors. It is almost like Eminem channeled the energy from his first two albums for his new album.

With all the rappers today trying to experiment with emo music and rock music Eminem is no exception. On this album he really takes some risks and steps out of the box with his concepts, production and lyrics. The difference between Eminem and all the others is he doesn’t need a so called “experimental album” to experiment. He has songs where he is trying to sing without the auto tune. Then he has other songs where he’s almost a rock and roll singer. As always Eminem is very open and airs out himself where he talks about topics like the death of his best friend Proof, his dealings with a certain female and even the state of hip-hop music. Eminem admits he contemplated putting out diss songs against all the top rappers. In the next line he claims if he did that he would get slaughtered. The most anticipated song from the album would be the Lil Wayne featured “No Love” which samples the old techno song “What Is Love”. This song is a mixture of hip-hop, Techno and Rock & Roll all mixed together by Just Blaze. It is very exciting to listen to one of the best rappers ever vs. Lil Wayne. Eminem let’s Lil Wayne go first on the track but you can hear Wayne adlib over Em’s part as if they recorded the song in one studio.

Overall the album is a mixture of the old Eminem with the new and improved Eminem. He uses old flows where he’s screaming like on “Role Model” from the Slim Shady L.P. Then he has his new rapid-fire machine gun flow where he ak47’s the track into pieces. By listening to the album you can tell Eminem has not lost his competitive battle rapper spirit or his love of the hip-hop culture.  When the pressure is applied Marshall Mathers performs best, even when times in life make him feel down, a simple recovery is always easy.
