![]() Kevin Rudolf, the rockstar artist signed to Universal/Cash Money Records is back again with a new album. After having solid success with his debut album "In The City" which garnered a platinum single that top the charts, this Cash Money artist is something unique on the Cash Money roster. You may ask the question, where the hell Birdman and Weezy find a rockstar from? They know how to find talent and that's why their millionaire moguls now. The new album from Kevin Rudolf "To The Sky" shows that he wants to continue his reign and this time show why he's a household name. Getting into the music, the album is off to a very good start with the hit single "I Made It". This single features the Cash Money Heroes(Birdman, Weezy & Jay Sean), this is an anthem for who have always dreamed of a goal and now its their reality. The production on this record produced by Kevin himself has a good feel to it,m which makes the song stand out. Birdman offers a verse on the project that you can easily forget about but Lil Wayne and Jay Sean's assistance serve well. The hook is very catchy and it instantly provides a sing-a-long for those that love this song, that goes "I used to dream about, the life I'm living now, I know that there's no doubt, I made it, I made it." Moving on to the next track on the album, "To The Sky" evolves into its rock n' roll appeal with "You Make The Rain Fall".The subject matter of this song is about the fine girl that is just stunning. Kevin goes on to explain how bad he wants the girl and how he'll go to the outer limits to have her. Adding some crossover appeal to the song, Flo-rida spits a quick verse to compliment the track. The guitars on this record are the key ingredient, they blended in perfectly with the hook. This song is not radio worthy but its a good listen. Listening to this album you get the impression that Kevin has been in love with a special women. Not being afraid to show that he has a good heart and respect for his lady, Kevin Rudolf seems to know that a good woman is hard to find. Taking a close listen to "Don't Cry" brings out the emotion he carries as an artist. "Don't Cry" seems to be a journey where he talks about how to get his life right and once he does, he'll be back to get his lady that supports him. "Whatchu Waiting For" is a great tale as well on finding that special woman and introducing to the life of her dreams. The vocals on Kevin's album are not his best attribute and this is clearly explained on the song "Big Timer". Honestly, the message on the song was good but it didn't live up to full potential. The production seemed too dark and weak, making it nothing to give you that kick. When a song is supposed to have an inspirational message it usually starts off in sadness then goes to happiness. "Big Timer" doesn't bring that acceleration at all. When you compare and contrast it, it shows why "I Made It" stood out and "Big Timer" didn't. Another throw away track comes with "Must Be Dreamin', this was not anything special nor is it a track to play over and over. Showcasing his talent and proving that he can get down on a rock track, Lil Wayne puts it down on "Spit In Your Face". Kevin Rudolf doesn't do much on track but play his role as a hookman while Weezy spits his bars. I will say the chemistry on this one did bond perfectly having the two artist excel to their best musically. Two artist from two different genres that combined their skills to make one dope track. Near the end of the album the musical quality overall is extraordinary. Kevin is one artist who is comfortable in his skin and knows what works best for him, which you can understand why he produced the whole album. He knows his sound and what he vibes to as an artist that brings out his musical talent at best. One of the favorite tracks is "What Do You Got", a self-absorbed anthem of his own character that searches for security on himself as human being. All in all "To The Sky" should be the album that take Kevin Rudolf's career to the next level. I think its time for the label to see the potential of Kevin with the good records on this album to become that full-fledged star. |
