Skent Dukes: Hear Me Out

Skent Dukes, where did that name come from and does it have a special meaning?

The name Skent came from some boys back in the neighborhood as a spin off cuz my real name isn’t actually that hood so to speak. These dudes insisted on calling me Skent then it just stuck so I just attached my real last name.

What makes you different from the artist that are currently trying to also make it right now?

They call me a triple threat…a writer, rapper, producer. But mainly think of my way of stringing together lyrics that catch people attention…give them a favorite unforgettable line.

Do you feel like its hard as an artist to get on when your not in a city that’s known for music?

Its a little more challenging because you need more resources and accessible contacts. But cream always rise to the top, that’s what moms told me.

How would you describe your sound and why?

Right now its more of a Midwest-southern style. I love my style. Its so different. A lot music is stemming from the south and it influences my creativity. So its crazy different.

I see that in December you gave toys for the Toys N the Hood event in Atlanta. How important is it as an artist to give back to the community?

We also did one in Cleveland my home city too. But its a must I think. The inner city is what created Skent so I gotta do it. Especially looking back on some of the struggles me and my brothers went threw. Shout out to Hitmenn DJ’s and Hushmoney management

2009 you really exploded onto the scene and became more familiar with the music blogs and such. What do you plan on doing in 2010?
-
MORE MORE and MORE music blogs. Ha. But you can expect to see more videos content, yall gotta put a face wit the name this year.

You’ve been grinding for some time now, at times I know there must be some frustration. How do you deal with that and continue to make good music?

Sometimes I just sit and think about the reasons I do this music for my fans who love my content, the people that surround me and believe in what I create. If anybody knows Skent you know I go dumb hard at everything so its a competitive illness I have too.

If you could do something differently in your past, that you think could have helped you more in your music career, what would it be?

Nothing. I think things happen and you experience certain things to grow you into the artist people love. I wouldn’t change a thing.

For your third installment of the I aint A Killa Mixtape Series, what can we expect from Skent Dukes as far as production? Any other surprises your planning?

I got a few producers on there who I believe in, and who I think will be big. JP the producer of ‘Steady Watchin’, Brandon Bishop, and I’m currently working with LT-MOE. I.A.A.K vol3 is a suprise in itself a SKENT DUKES experience.
